vatsim is very user friendly. Its all learning it. There are a lot of VATXXX's. They are just different divisions around the world. Since you signed up with VATUSA, all you need to worry about is VATUSA. About the p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word, sometimes it does take a few days. Once you get it, you can rename it to w/e you want it to be

Go to the UK website here: http://www.vatsim-uk.org/contact.php

And e-mail VATUK3 (Chris Barham) regarding the situation. When you joined VATSIM, I'm sure you chose the UK Division as your Division. You automatically get an e-mail from the Division when you do that. You probably don't have that e-mail anymore, so you need to contact the Division management.

This happens all the time, because new members aren't familiar with the system. Like with VATUSA, if you choose it when you sign up for VATSIM, they send you a p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word for the VATUSA website right then and there. Most people either ignore, forget, or discard that e-mail for VATUSA. Then months later, they try to go to the VATUSA website, have trouble, go to VATSIM, try to rejoin VATUSA and do all that....even though they are already members and already have a p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word. In VATUSA's case, all they have to do is reset their VATUSA p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word on the site. I'm not sure how it works for VATUK.

Hi Martin

I see you are a member of the VATSIM-uk division. In order to take the OBS-STU exam at VATSIM-UK you need to register for the VATSIM-UK RTS system which requres a seperate log in and p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word. You register here http://www.vatsim-uk.org/rts/home/join.php and follow the instructions.

Of course! No need to create a new account, have a good read through http://vatsim.net/controller.html.

That´s correct Just make sure, that you are not connected as Pilot and ATC at the same time and you´ll be fine.

There isnt an exam to get OBS, its what you attain when joining VATSIM. Make sure your CID and p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word is correct when logging into a pilot/radar client

Hi Levi,

Which division's exam are you trying to take?

By the way, I notice you don't have any time logged on as an observer on VATSIM. I strongly suggest you log on and become familiar with the software, observe controllers at work, and read up on the divisional procedures before you take the exam to become a Student. There will be plenty of details on the relevant divisional website.

Ruth,

I am going to go for VATUSA.I have no Observer hours because I have no clue how to be an observer or even how to start on my way to becoming a controller.

In that case you shouldn't even be thinking about taking the exam as it presupposes you've learnt something about controlling before you become a Student 1, the rating that permits you to log on and actually control. When you do take the exam you will need to use your VATUSA p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word, not your main VATSIM p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word.

In the meantime, start up VRC or ASRC, login with your VATSIM CID and p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word and start observing. I don't know about the USA, but VATSIM UK has a walkthrough on getting set up to observe. You'll find both the ASRC and VRC versions at http://www.vatsim-uk.org/training/index.php - look for the Observers Guides

The answer to that is a bit like "do you prefer Pepsi or Coke?" The biggest difference between the two is that VRC is designed for a multiple monitor set-up and is harder to use if you've only got a single monitor. ASRC works fine on a single monitor.

Regarding your VATUSA p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word, I've just been browsing the posts in the VATUSA forum. You should have been sent your VATUSA p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word by e-mail when you signed up with the VATUSA division. If you haven't got it you need to use the Lost P[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word facility on the VATUSA website, not the main vatsim.net website. If you haven't yet selected VATUSA as your division, you need to do that first - go to www.vatsim.net, click on Member Services, then Account Changes, then Select a Division.

I see you are in the UK Division. I suggest you read http://www.vatsim-uk.org/index.php?page=start which has the instructions. It says you have to apply to join the RTS (Regional Training System) before you take the exam. The RTS system has it's own p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word which is separate from your p[Mod - Happy Thoughts]word for logging on to the network.

You don't have to be a member of any particular ARTCC to observe, just go ahead and do it.

With regard to logging in with ZLA I suggest you contact them directly by e-mail, as they won't necessarily look here.
