That's why god invented Macs.

Uh, no. Far better operating systems out there than the Mac OS.

Linux I'm not familiar with, and I believe that article was referring to Windows causing the crash.

That was a windows server in 2004. Newer versions of windows are quite a bit more stable than that, it was probably Windows 2000 that crashed. Mac doesn't mac server products for that sort of application and Windows desktops are stable enough for desktop use, but probably aren't good for critical purposes. Linux, however, is commonly used for critical servers, and performs extremely reliably.

I'm sure Apple would be shocked to hear you say that considering that they have produced and sold server-specific versions of Mac OS X for the past 10 years...

Well, OS X hasn't been around that long.. but they have had Server operating systems since longer before X.

Brandon, you just need to broaden your horizons. Several systems are more stable for servers, including Linux, UNIX, Solaris, etc. UNIX-based systems are so much more stable in fact that OS X is built off a variant of it.

Sorry about that confusion, I was referring to the fact that the version OS X used for servers is not identical to that used for desktop uses.

Having been in my previous life a systems administrator, developer, and network engineer, and given some of the things being said here, it pains me to the core to not interject—but guys, please don't derail an otherwise useful thread with an OS superiority argument. That way lies madness.

When I was in a tower here in Canada, I saw that here they run the radar as an application on a copy of Windows XP.

This comes to mind:

...And yes that was photoshopped.

Jake, you should know that it should look more like this! We need a penguin emoticon!

I'm hoping that penguin emote wasn't referring to linux, just so we can get back to the real idea behind this topic.

Wycliffe,

That is not Andy's screen saver, he prefers to control reading binary, as it saves valuable processor cycles from having to render the traffic in a graphical format!

Inspired by the (VATCAN) CANadian Scope setups. I only took the advanced list positions and their config idea to reduce cluttering on my screen, and I must say it looks better now.
